With Tactical Classes

These specialized courses are designed for shooters who have mastered fundamental skills and seek to develop advanced capabilities beyond static range work. Unlike conventional training that focuses primarily on accuracy in controlled environments, tactical instruction emphasizes movement, positional shooting, environmental awareness, and decision-making under pressure.

Each tactical class begins with a rigorous safety briefing and skills verification to ensure all participants meet the prerequisite proficiency levels. Our experienced instructors—veterans of military special operations, law enforcement tactical units, and competitive shooting circuits—bring authentic expertise rather than simply regurgitating techniques from YouTube videos or weekend seminars.

The curriculum incorporates evidence-based training methods developed through decades of real-world implementation and analysis. We cover tactical movement principles, use of cover and concealment, multiple threat engagement, low-light operations, and communication protocols applicable to civilian defensive scenarios. These skills are taught through progressively challenging drills that build both competence and confidence.

Students will experience realistic force-on-force scenarios using non-lethal training systems that provide immediate feedback on decision-making and execution. This reality-based training component bridges the critical gap between range performance and actual defensive capability, addressing the psychological aspects of confrontation that static target practice cannot replicate.

Equipment selection, modification, and deployment receive significant attention throughout the course. We analyze the practical applications of various firearms, accessories, and carry methods without brand favoritism or sponsorship influence. Our goal is to help you optimize your personal defensive tools for your specific needs and physical capabilities.

Physical fitness components are integrated into tactical training to simulate the physiological effects of stress and exertion on fine motor skills. Students learn to manage elevated heart rates, combat breathing techniques, and stress-induced performance limitations—factors critically absent from standard shooting instruction but inevitable in actual defensive encounters.

Legal considerations form a crucial component of our tactical curriculum. We provide detailed information on the escalation of force continuum, threat assessment parameters, and post-incident procedures relevant to civilian self-defense. These discussions include case studies of actual defensive incidents and their legal outcomes, though we always recommend consulting qualified attorneys for legal advice specific to your jurisdiction.

Class sizes are deliberately limited to maintain an instructor-to-student ratio that allows for personalized coaching and continuous assessment. This ensures safety during complex drills while providing the individual attention necessary for rapid skill development. All training takes place at secure facilities with appropriate safety infrastructure for advanced tactical exercises.

Beyond shooting mechanics, we address tactical emergency medical skills specifically relevant to trauma care. Students learn bleeding control techniques, improvised treatment methods, and how to integrate medical response into their defensive planning—capabilities that extend well beyond firearms applications.

Equipment requirements for tactical classes are clearly communicated during registration, with rental options available for specialized gear. While we recommend training with your everyday carry equipment, we can accommodate various platforms and configurations to meet individual needs.

Progression through our tactical training program is documented with detailed performance assessments and personalized development plans. Many graduates return for quarterly skill maintenance sessions or advanced specialization courses in areas like vehicle tactics, home defense, or executive protection principles.

The tactical mindset developed through these classes extends far beyond firearms—it cultivates situational awareness, critical decision-making, and resilience applicable to countless aspects of personal and professional life. Our holistic approach addresses the complete spectrum of defensive capability, from threat recognition through response execution.

Contact us to discuss prerequisite requirements and schedule an evaluation to determine appropriate placement within our tactical training progression. Investing in professional tactical instruction represents the commitment to excellence that separates prepared individuals from those merely familiar with firearms.

Tactical Classes FAQs
What is the cancellation and refund policy for tactical classes?

Cancellations made more than 14 days before the class start date receive a full refund. Between 14 days and 5 days out you receive a credit toward a future Make Ready course instead of a refund. Within 5 days of the class, and for no-shows, no refund or credit is issued. Tactical seats are limited. If you are not sure this class is the right fit, call (208) 704-2355 before you register and we will help you decide.

Where do tactical classes take place?

Tactical training is held in the Coeur d'Alene area, with live fire at Fernan Rod and Gun Club, 11600 Fernan Lake Road in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Each session listed on the class schedule page shows its exact location and times.

How is a tactical class different from Next Level Pistol or Cheat Codes of Shooting?

Next Level Pistol, Next Level Carbine, and Cheat Codes of Shooting 1 are marksmanship and performance courses that refine the mechanics of shooting well. Tactical classes stress those existing mechanics with movement, cover, low light, multiple threats, decision making, and time pressure. Do the performance work first, then the tactical work.

Can I take a tactical class with a red dot equipped pistol?

Yes, and red dot work is welcome, including diagnosing why you lose the dot on the draw or under recoil. Bring a zeroed optic with a fresh battery, backup iron sights if your setup has them, and the carry configuration you actually use rather than a range only gun.

Do tactical classes cover use of force law?

Tactical classes include discussion of threat assessment, the escalation of force, and what happens after a defensive incident, along with case studies. That is training context and not legal advice. For guidance on your specific circumstances, consult an attorney licensed in Idaho or Washington.

How much ammunition should I bring to a tactical class?

Round counts vary by course, and a full performance day typically consumes 400 to 500 rounds. Your class confirmation lists the exact requirement. Bring a margin above the stated count so a malfunction or a few extra repetitions does not end your training day early.

What gear do I need for a tactical class?

Generally your everyday carry pistol, a sturdy gun belt, a holster with enough retention for movement, at least three magazines with magazine pouches, eye and ear protection, sturdy shoes, weather appropriate clothing, and food and water. Exact requirements and round counts are provided when you register.

Is force on force training safe?

Yes, when it is run properly. Live firearms and live ammunition are removed from the training area and verified before any scenario begins, purpose built non lethal training equipment is used, and protective gear is required. Scenarios are directly supervised and stopped immediately if a safety condition is violated.

What does force on force training involve?

Force on force uses non lethal marking or training firearms in supervised, scenario based problems where another person acts and reacts. It shows how you actually make decisions when things get fast and uncertain, which a static paper target cannot do. Our Real World Scenarios class is built around this format.

What is the minimum age for tactical training, and are there citizenship requirements?

Tactical courses require students to be at least 21 years old, or 18 and older when accompanied by a guardian. Because of United States Department of State ITAR regulations, tactical training is available only to US citizens and lawful permanent residents.

Are tactical classes appropriate for civilians, or only military and police?

They are built for civilians who have already mastered the fundamentals. The methodology comes from decades of law enforcement experience and professional instruction, but the applications are framed around lawful civilian self defense in your home, your vehicle, and your daily life.

What are the prerequisites for a tactical class?

You must already be safe and competent with your firearm without supervision. That means a consistent grip and stance, a safe draw and reholster, malfunction clearing, and reliable muzzle and trigger discipline while moving. Every class begins with a safety briefing and skills verification before any live drills.
